Hotel Day 6, 7 & 8: La Lauzetane, La Semeuse & Hotel du Pin
As it’s Bank Holiday, I thought I would do a bumper reveal of the final hotels on our trip.
Hotel La Lauzetane
Our hotel for day 6 is Hotel La Lauzetane. On the XL route for Day 6 is the Col d’Agnel, and everyone will climb the stunning Col du Vars. After sweating it out on those climbs the outdoor swimming pool at our three-star hotel in the Ubaye valley will be welcome.
Originally I had planned for us to stay in Barcelonette, however it was tricky to find the ideal place. The 3* hotels in town don’t have their own restaurants and the only hotel in town that had a restaurant is rated as 2*. I think La Lauzetane fits our requirements perfectly, with three-star rooms and a restaurant used to catering for cyclists.
Les Portes du Mercantour Village Vacances
The hotel for day 7 is Les Portes du Mercantour Village Vacances and on the afternoon of day 7, imagine us all in the photo above in our salty cycling kit!
When we reach this terrace, we’ll have climbed the mighty Col de la Bonnette (2,860m) and in doing so have ticked off all the major cols on The Alps Challenge!
Hotel du Pin Nice Port
Finding a hotel in Nice wasn’t easy and I can’t take the credit for this one. I was struggling to find somewhere that would allow our sizeable group to stay on a Saturday for just one night. Hotel du Pin was found by Gemma, my better half. They have the current record for email response times, usually responding to our emails within the hour. Their concierge team is more efficient than Remco on a TT bike!
Fully renovated in 2023, the hotel is well-located in the centre of Nice. It means that getting to the airport the next day will be easy and we’ll be close to bars & restaurants for a celebratory drink!
What’s next?
The full hotel line up has now been revealed. The next series of blog posts will contain the routes!
