Hotel Day 3 & 4: Bourg d’Oisans

Hotel Oberland, Bourg d’Oisans

Welcome to our first blog post! I will be sharing as much information as possible about the Alps Challenge in this format and I’m going to start this off with the hotels that we will be staying at. In total, there are 7 hotels on our tour from Geneva to Nice. The first hotel I wanted to share is in Bourg d’Oisans, a town where I lived and worked for a summer in 2016. It was that summer living at the foot of Alpe d’Huez and working as a cycling guide, from which the Alps Challenge project has eventually grown.

The‘rest day hotel’, so-called because it is the only hotel that we stay in for two nights and gives the support crew the day off, is fully equipped for large groups of cyclists. The rooms are pine-furnished, there’s a garden and terrace to chill in post ride and the food is great - they are well used to feeding hungry cyclists!

The Oisans valley has Col du Glandon and Croix de Fer at one end, Alpe d’Huez in the middle and the Col du Lautaret and Galibier at the other end.  The town centre is a couple of minutes walk away, which is ideal as we’ll have some extra time on the Tuesday afternoon (day 4) to mooch around after climbing Alpe d’Huez that morning.
